Subaru Motorsports USA put two cars on the podium at Minnesota’s Muscatell Ojibwe Forests Rally, as David Higgins extended his American Rally Association championship lead with his third victory of the year.
Travis Pastrana finished third overall, securing a podium in each of his two ARA events this season.
David Higgins won more than half the event’s stages, including going six-for-six on Friday, on the way to a dominant win in the Minnesota forests.
Higgins and Pastrana set the pace early, trading wins in the Thursday super special stages in their WRX STI rally cars.
Pastrana, coming off a strong performance at the previous weekend’s Nitro Rallycross event, had to adjust quickly to the fast, flowing roads of Ojibwe Forests Rally.
David Higgins and co-driver Craig Drew pushed hard from the start of Friday’s forest stages, building a lead over rival Barry McKenna and never looking back.
Pastrana and co-driver Robbie Durant pushed through a tire puncture and a light front-end hit on Saturday to protect their podium position.
With a lead of over a minute going into the second day of forest stages, Higgins and Drew were able to drive conservatively and preserve their lead.
The Vermont SportsCar technicians kept both the #1 and #199 cars running strong all weekend.
The weekend wrapped up with two final super special stages in Detroit Lakes, with Pastrana showing off for a crowd of fans.
Higgins and Drew now hold a strong first-place lead in the ARA championship standings.
Pastrana and Durant showed strong pace throughout the weekend and wrapped up a third-place finish in only their second event of the year.
