Subaru of America, Inc. today announced that motorsport legend and Quebec native Jacques Villeneuve will drive for Subaru Rally Team USA in the FIA Americas Rallycross (ARX) championship in Trois-Rivières, Quebec, Canada on August 4 and 5.

Villeneuve, 1997 Formula One World Champion and 1995 Indianapolis 500 winner, will compete alongside team drivers Chris Atkinson and Patrik Sandell in the third round of the inaugural ARX series. All three drivers will be racing in 2018 Subaru WRX STI Rallycross supercars developed by technical partner Vermont SportsCar.

The Circuit Trois-Rivières will host the ARX series as it rejoins the World Rallycross calendar for the opening weekend of the 49th Grand Prix de Trois-Rivierès (GP3R). Villeneuve’s last appearance on track at GP3R was in the World RX series, and he is thrilled to rejoin the sport with SRT USA.

“Trois-Rivières has always felt like my motorsports home, so it's once again a pleasure to be back. Rallycross has grown exponentially since I've last raced these amazing cars, so it's good to be part of a sport on the rise. I am grateful for the opportunity to be racing with Subaru, and will do everything in my power to help the team in its Americas Rallycross endeavor,” Villeneuve stated.

Villeneuve’s career has seen him compete in a wide range of racing disciplines, including Formula 1, Le Mans and NASCAR along with his experience in World RX. For Subaru, the chance to put him behind the wheel of a 600-horsepower WRX STI represents a huge opportunity.

“Jacques Villeneuve is a global motorsport icon and Subaru is excited to welcome him to Americas Rallycross in a WRX STI,” said William Stokes, Motorsports Manager for Subaru of America. “With his local background and tremendous success in American racing, Jacques will be a thrill for both Canadian and U.S. fans.”
