Gymkhana 2020: Travis Pastrana Takeover takes the iconic Gymkhana franchise in a high-flying new direction.
Gymkhana 2020 returns the franchise to Subaru where it began, starring a one-off 862-horsepower STI built specifically for the video.
Set in wheelman Travis Pastrana’s hometown of Annapolis, Maryland, Gymkhana 2020 features plenty of big slides and tire destruction that have become a hallmark of Gymkhana.
With the opportunity to redefine Gymkhana, the 2020 installment features stunt sequences with planes, boats, action sports athletes, and major Annapolis landmarks.
Subaru’s Gymkhana 2020 STI was purpose-built to execute stunts at triple-digit speeds with high levels of downforce and control.
One of Gymkhana 2020’s defining stunts is a high-speed hill jump executed at 150mph on a narrow country road.
The active aerodynamics of the Gymkhana STI were necessary for Pastrana to control the car’s attitude in midair, allowing him to raise or lower the car’s nose as needed for flight and landing.
A 180-degree spin jump in tandem with a stunt plane required a precisely controlled high-speed handbrake slide.
Gymkhana 2020 concludes at Pastranaland, Travis’ home and action sports training facility, with major action sports icons—and his daughters Addy and Bristol—appearing in end credits cameos.
2019 Skateboard vert world champion Lyn-Z Adams Hawkings Pastrana, Travis’ wife, also features in the video’s closing sequence.
With several of the video’s main stunts being filmed in downtown Annapolis, local fans turned out to watch Pastrana shred tires on the waterfront.
An extended cut will launch in 2021 including more stunt sequences featuring some of Annapolis’ most famous landmarks.
