SUBARU RALLY TEAM USA CONFIRMS THREE-CAR TEAM ENTRY FOR RED BULL GRC LOS ANGELES

Subaru Rally Team USA confirmed today three Subaru drivers will compete in the final weekend races of the 2016 Red Bull Global Rallycross Championship, a double-header race held at the Port of San Pedro, CA in metro Los Angeles October 8-9. After strong performances at the Seattle, WA GRC round Subaru drivers David Higgins and Chris Atkinson will continue on to LA, and be joined by Japanese rally legend Toshi Arai.

Toshihiro ‘Toshi’ Arai carries a long and successful stage rally career, competing in WRC events around the globe behind the wheel of the Subaru WRX STI, including driving for the Subaru World Rally Team. Arai is a two-time Production World Rally Car  (PWRC) champion (2005,2007) and most recently won the 2015 Japan Rally Championship by claiming five wins in nine rounds.

“I’m very excited to work with Subaru Rally Team USA and compete behind the wheel of a 600HP WRX STI rallycross car,” stated Arai. “I’ve kept a close watch on Red Bull GRC so I really look forward to the opportunity Subaru has offered me to race in the series.”

“Toshi has long been part of the Subaru global motorsports effort, and we look forward to his Red Bull GRC debut in Los Angeles,” stated Subaru Motorsports Marketing Manager Rob Weir.

Defending Rally America Champion David Higgins will return with his DirtFish Rally School supported WRX STI to LA. Higgins showed great pace throughout the Seattle event, taking third in his semi-final and transferring to the final race at his first Red Bull GRC race this year. Higgins would settle for ninth place in Seattle after mechanical damage slowed his pace in the final.

“Seattle was a fun and challenging event for my return to GRC this year,” said Higgins. “It will be great to finish the season strong in LA, we have a huge Subaru following there to cheer us on. I look forward to giving them a great show and result!”

Subaru driver Chris Atkinson, who made his Red Bull GRC debut at the Atlantic City, NJ round charged from the back of the field in Seattle to finish 6th overall, SRTUSA’s best result this season.

“I’ve really enjoyed working with the Subaru team this year and getting my seat time in GRC,” explained Atkinson. “It’s been fun and challenging so far, and now with a few races completed with the Subaru team, I know we can fight at the front in LA.”
